About Me.

"When I sit down to create, I don’t know what I will end up drawing or painting... but I do know that my work always comes from a happy place. It starts with me and a pen and an image or feeling that inspires me. I’m drawn to the imperfections of a person or place- for those imperfections are what make things more interesting and beautiful."

A native New Yorker, t-shirt and jeans enthusiast, and former producer on the Chelsea Lately Show, Carly Kuhn’s a serious artist who doesn’t take herself too seriously. A self-proclaimed “happy person,” her work reflects and inspires just that; not the mindless, bubble-gum happy, but the happy that you find in lines drawn across a page in just the right way that they bring a mini world to life, a world you want to take home with you and make your own.

Though known for her fashion illustrations that became an Instagram sensation, the magic of Kuhn’s work lies in her ability to gracefully turn the subtle and ordinary into the alluring and evocative. She shows us different angles, fresh perspectives and often provides a peek into a private world or a secret moment. Whether it’s the turn of a head from behind, the soft curve of a back, or simply a turtleneck pulled over a woman’s face, it’s always delightfully unexpected. Her work encourages us to look differently at what’s around us and to take notice. It’s a style and sensibility that marries the realness of New York with the ease of California, an aesthetic that informs her life and everything she touches. She’s done work for Dior, Capitol Records, Prada, Glossier, Elle, L'Officiel Italia, and jewelry brand Alexis Bittar and can count Rachel Zoe, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Scott and Sarah Jessica Parker as fans.
